CERT 1000 Challenge

The best way to protect you and your family in an emergency is to be prepared at home. We know that first responders may not arrive quickly, but we can take care of our communities when we work together.

That is why Councilmember Casey is leading our CERT 1,000 Challenge - A goal to get 1,000 District 10 residents trained in Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) in one year (from June 2025 to June 2026).

Teen CERT Program - July 2025

  • Friday, July 25, 2025, 6:00 - 10:00 PM over Zoom.

  • Saturday & Sunday, July 26 & 27, 2025, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM at San José Fire Training Center, 1591 Senter Road, San José, CA 95112.

The Teen CERT Program by San Jose Neighborhood Community Emergency Response Team (SJNCERT) is a FEMA approved training for youths (11-17) and scouts to ensure that they have the skills they may need to protect themselves and assist others in emergencies and natural and man-made disaster scenarios. The Teen CERT classes and exercises are taught by licensed and certified Emergency Response personnel, local first responders and educators, and coordinated by long-time community leaders and youth advocates.

The 20 hour training is broken down to modules: Disaster Preparedness CERT Organization Medical Operations Search and Rescue / Damage Assessment Disaster Psychology Fire Safety and Utilities Terrorism and Hazardous Materials.
